Pastoralist Child Foundation (PCF) works to eradicate female genital mutilation (FGM) and forced early marriage of girls in Samburu and Maasai Mara, Kenya. PCF provides workshops at the grassroots level for youth, adults and elders to prevent harmful practices that harm and marginalize girls and women. Alternative Rites of Passage for girls replace “the cut.” The workshop curriculum includes FGM, child marriage, teen pregnancy, sexual & reproductive health, HIV/AIDS/STD’s, sanitation, child rights, self-awareness, self-confidence, and the importance of formal education. PCF also has a scholarship program to assist low-income girls to attend secondary boarding schools. Eleven girls are currently sponsored, 3 of which will graduate from high school in November, 2017.
